Find out the owner of a cell phone number with a trick

You constantly receive unknown calls on your smartphone? atechbook shows which tricks you can use to search for the name behind the mobile number in an uncomplicated way.

When you receive unknown calls on your smartphone, you automatically wonder who is calling and why. Is it perhaps a friend with a new number – or just another annoying hotline employee from the mobile phone provider trying to pitch a new contract? Or even worse, maybe it’s a stalker, the tax office or an already repressed club acquaintance ringing. When these calls pile up, it can be quite annoying. But don’t worry: Using the cell phone number, it’s possible to search for the caller’s identity. There are several simple methods to do this.

Search cell phone number backwards in the phone book

A good first port of call is the phone book reverse search at the online phone book: here you can simply enter the cell phone number and search for the owner of the corresponding phone line – at least if he previously agreed to an entry. A suitable app is, for example, ” Das Örtliche Telefonbuch für Deutschland “. The application is intuitive and the database quite comprehensive. However, it is only limited to German numbers.

Searching for unknown callers via WhatsApp

The messenger WhatsApp can also help to find the owner of an unknown cell phone number. Simply save the number in your smartphone’s phone book. If the caller has an account on WhatsApp, you will automatically find him there under “Contacts”. A profile picture or the status may provide information about the identity of the unknown caller.

Call mailbox

If neither the reverse search nor WhatsApp provide the desired success, a call to the mailbox may provide clarity in the cell phone number search – perhaps the caller has set up an individual greeting for his smartphone mailbox. There is a way to call the mailbox directly without it ringing first. Every provider has a code for this, which is entered between the area code and the number when dialing. For Vodafone, this is around 50, T-Mobile has 13 and O2 has 33. You can tell which provider the caller is with by the area codes, which are distributed as follows:

O2 (and E-Plus):

If now an unknown call comes in with the number 01520-1234567, you know, he is a customer of Vodafone. If you want to call the mailbox, put the number 50 in between and call the following number: 01520-50-1234567. This also works if the owner has taken his number from one provider to another. For example, if the cell phone number you want to find belongs to Vodafone according to the area code, but now uses a Telekom contract with the same number, the call will be automatically diverted to the mailbox.

Note: Caution is advised if none of the common numbers was used for the call. If you do not have relatives or friends abroad who would explain a foreign mobile number and facilitate the search, you should be careful that it is not possibly a payment trap.

Use Google for mobile number search

Of course, you can also simply search for the cell phone number on Google as a test – but you should keep a few things in mind. In any case, enter the number in quotation marks (“”) so that Google only searches for this specific cell phone number. Maybe you will find a company to which you can assign the number. On sites like ” Tellows ” you can also enter the number and see if other users have already complained about spam or rip-offs and tell who is behind the number. Then at least you know that you can save yourself the callback.
