AVM is expanding its range of Wifi-6 capable devices. New in this group is the “Fritz!Repeater 1200 AX”. It is particularly compact and serves to amplify the WLAN in the home network.
With the Fritz!Repeater 6000, there has already been a powerful WLAN amplifier with Wifi 6 from AVM since mid-2021. However, this model is very large and has to be operated away from the wall socket as a separate device. Not so the new model. The Fritz!Repeater 1200 AX is particularly compact, can be plugged directly into the wall socket, and can also be used as an extension to a mesh system. It is the upgrade of the already known Repeater 1200 from 2019, but with Wifi 6.
Decent performance despite compact format
The Fritz!Repeater 1200 AX looks almost like a cube. It measures just 8 centimeters in height and width and is also very light at 101 grams. Commissioning is simple: plug the adapter into the socket, connect via WPS, and you’re done. It is practical that the repeater not only strengthens the WLAN, but also has a Gigabit LAN port for connecting devices via cable. Its small format makes it particularly suitable for use in places where there is little space.
Inside the Fritz!Repeater 1200 AX are two antennas each for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. This gives it a total maximum performance of 3000 Mbit/s. Compared to the top model Fritz!Repeater 6000, this is only half the bandwidth, but the performance is decent for such a small device. The support of mesh technology ensures that the devices integrated in the home network always connect to the WLAN repeater that enables the best data throughput.
According to AVM, the Fritz!Repeater 1200 AX can be paired with any WLAN router – including models other than the Fritzbox. In connection with a Fritzbox, however, it automatically takes over all important settings and also pulls the relevant updates.
With an MSRP of 89 Euros, the Fritz!Repeater 1200 AX is significantly cheaper than the Fritz!Repeater 6000, which costs 219 Euros. However, the performance is also lower. AVM is expected to launch the new WLAN repeater in November.
