Vodafone improves prepaid rates with 5G and more data volume

Vodafone is significantly upgrading its CallYa prepaid rates from June 30. All information on the changes at a glance.

After Vodafone recently changed its regular mobile rates, there are now also changes for the prepaid rates. From the end of June, CallYa users will get unlimited access to the 5G network – at no additional cost. There will also be more data volume.

Free 5G and additional data volume

Overall, both data consumption and the need for faster data transfer on mobile devices are increasing in Germany. Vodafone responded to this as early as May 2022, firstly by renaming the mobile rates previously known as Red as GigaMobil. Secondly, the provider equipped the new rate options with significantly more data volume in some cases.

Vodafone is now planning something similar with its CallYa prepaid rates. The data volume is increasing for the CallYa Allnet Flat M and L rates, as well as for CallYa Black. Up to now, 5G has also been available as an option in all CallYa rates – but that is now set to change. From June 30, access to the fast network will be integrated into all rate options out of the box and at no additional cost. This makes Vodafone the first provider in Germany to offer the 5G network in all its prepaid rates at no extra charge. By comparison, most users previously surfed with LTE Max at a maximum of 500 Mbit/s. 5G makes up to 1000 Mbit/s possible, provided the local networks have already been upgraded to the standard.

Overview of Vodafone’s CallYa rates

Vodafone offers a total of seven prepaid options. CallYa Classic and Start are well suited for newcomers. The basic fee is very low or even free in the Classic package. Classic users pay 3 cents per megabyte, which is comparatively cheap. With CallYa Start, 1 GB is already included in the rate.

With the CallYa Allnet Flat rates S, M and L, Vodafone offers versatile models in different sizes. The S rate will also include 3 GB in the future. The data volume of CallYa Allnet Flat M, on the other hand, will increase from 5 to 6 GB, and that of the L rate from 7 to 9 GB. CallYa Digital, on the other hand, remains completely unchanged with a hefty 15 GB for 20 euros, since the rate already had 5G access before.

From June 30, the Black rate will also be the first CallYa offer with unlimited data volume for 79.99 euros. Previously, the limit here was 50 gigabytes.

Upgrade for CallYa rates also for existing customers

The upgrade affects not only new but also existing customers, who can look forward to more data volume and free 5G from the end of June. To take advantage of the new benefits, customers will have to activate the corresponding option in the “MyVodafone” app from July 1. Those who do not activate the option themselves will be automatically upgraded in subsequent months. The same applies to users who use one of the rates that will have more data volume available from July. According to Vodafone, the provider will then inform its customers about the exact time of the changeover.

Conclusion

Although not all users of Vodafone’s prepaid rates will benefit from more data volume, the jump of 1 GB or 2 GB is nevertheless pleasing. On the other hand, the fact that 5G is now automatically introduced in all options at no extra charge is a big step. This may also trigger a change among the other mobile carriers in Germany. Of course, the option only benefits those in areas where 5G is already available.

The now unlimited CallYa Black rate is also noteworthy. If you compare the offer, you are very well off with 79.99 euros as a frequent surfer at Vodafone. At Deutsche Telekom, for example, a comparable prepaid rate costs 99.95 euros. Of course, contracts with longer terms are cheaper, but they offer far less flexibility.
