7 old phones that are now really valuable

Normally, technology depreciates in value over time. But every now and then, there are always collector’s items. Even some old cell phones are now really valuable. Which models now bring the most money, shows you atechbook.

You still have some of your old cell phones lying in a drawer? Perhaps there are real rarities. Because a few models are now sought-after collector’s items and worth several thousand euros. You can get the most money out of them if you still have the original packaging. We present seven valuable cell phones that can fetch real money today.

Notes on value

At this point we would like to point out that not every phone listed here has to fetch the stated sum when sold. As always with auctions and sales of this kind, the value to be achieved depends on supply and demand – two factors that can fluctuate greatly. However, the following models have traded high in the past.

1. Motorola DynaTAC 8000x – one of the most valuable cell phones today.

It is a real bone and THE ancestor of every smartphone: The Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. What today seems like a device from the Stone Age is the world’s first real cell phone. The patent was filed as early as 1973, before the device went on sale ten years later for almost 4000 US dollars. The colossus weighed a whopping 800 grams, the battery lasted one hour and then needed ten hours to recharge. The only thing that could be seen on the display were the numbers. Customers at the time also had to be patient – they had to wait up to a year for a device.

Unfortunately, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x is no longer functional, but the mother of all cell phones can still increase in value, especially in the future, and is already being sold for several thousand euros. So if you own this valuable cell phone, you should even have a little patience.

3. the first iPhone

It was a huge sensation back then when Steve Jobs introduced Apple’s first iPhone (also called iPhone 2G) in 2007. With 4 gigabytes (GB) of memory, the iPhone cost $499 (about 404 euros).

Although the number one can of course no longer keep up with newer generations technically, collectors love this original iPhone. Accordingly, it is valuable today. Again, as-new devices are worth a lot of money to collectors. On Ebay, you can find purchase prices between 2000 and 3000 euros.

7. samsung SPH-N270

This Samsung phone probably owes its futuristic look primarily to the movie Matrix Reloaded. Morpheus uses it, which is why the movie makers and the Korean manufacturer had worked closely together. From the beginning, the Samsung SPH-N270 was a collector’s item for Matrix fans – and it has remained so until today. However, the now valuable cell phone from the film industry has doubled its own value since 2003.
