Clean RAM makes the iPhone significantly faster

The longer you have a smartphone in use, the slower it becomes. But with a simple trick, you can clean up your iPhone’s RAM and make it significantly faster again.

Those who have been using their iPhone for a longer period of time may have noticed that it gets slower and slower over time. Especially those who switch back and forth between apps or load a new app may have to be patient. This is more pronounced on older iPhones, but can also happen on newer models. The reason: With every use, the iPhone stores information in the working memory to be able to launch applications faster later. At some point, however, the RAM is so heavily occupied that processes take more time. But with this simple trick, you can clean up your iPhone’s RAM and make it much faster again.

Clean up iPhone RAM in just a few steps

To clear the RAM – also known as working memory – of your iPhone, all you need to do is follow a few steps. If you have an iPhone with a physical home button, you can jump right in at point 4. However, especially newer iPhones do not have this haptic button. Then proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the iPhone’s settings and then go to the “Operating aids” section. Under the “Tap” tab, you can activate the so-called “AssistiveTouch” function.
  2. To do so, tap on the “AssistiveTouch” item and move the slider at the very top to green in the menu that then appears. On the right edge of the screen, you should now see a small circular area that replaces the home button.
  3. Tap on the circular area respectively and then on “Home” in the menu that opens.
  4. Open the shutdown menu ( you can find detailed instructions here ) by quickly pressing the volume up button first, then the volume down button. Immediately afterwards, press and hold the lock key until the shutdown menu opens.
  5. In this view, either tap on the button and then long on “Home” or accordingly on the physical home button. Then enter your code when prompted.

A full RAM makes the iPhone slower

Emptying RAM can lead to better performance on all tech devices. RAM is the short-term memory. All the data that the device accesses in the short term is stored there. The more data is stored there, the slower the device.

A first solution is therefore often to close running applications in the background. However, this only helps to a limited extent with a slowed down iPhone. Therefore, it can be worthwhile to clean up the RAM if the performance is significantly reduced.
