Navigation app “Mapstr” in test

For navigating, Google Maps has become the standard for many users. But there are alternatives with additional features – for example, the app Mapstr.

Mapstr is an app for favorite places. The navigation app from a French startup offers the ability to bookmark interesting places around the world. From parks and museums to restaurants, bars, clubs and cinemas.

Marking and illustrating places with Mapstr

On the Mapstr map, you not only see your current location, but you can also easily mark places and add a description and a picture. With the integrated search, a list and a filter by category, it is easy to find saved locations again.

It is true that Google Maps also has an integrated bookmark function, which can be used to save locations in the personal Google account. Mapstr, however, was developed specifically for this purpose and offers extended functions.

App includes social element

So Mapstr is all about organization. Anyone who saves a location can tag it with things like “park,” “bar,” or “museum.” And even add their own comments. This can be useful, as it reminds you why you saved a particular place.

Despite the large feature set, Mapstr is not cluttered. Moreover, the app does not try to be a social network, although it does include a social element. You can share your favorite places with family, friends, acquaintances and colleagues. However, if you don’t want to do that, you can keep it private and only use it for yourself.

Mapstr is available for free download for iOS and Android. In the free version, some functions are limited, and for everything beyond that, you need the full version, which can be unlocked via in-app purchase.
