New Xiaomi smartphones in comparison – for whom is which model worthwhile?

Xiaomi has expanded its popular Redmi Note series with new models. For little money, the devices offer really good features. atechbook presents the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro (5G), Note 11 and Note 11S.

The current mid-range smartphones attract with very attractive prices. Manufacturers are increasingly offering customers upscale technology that can definitely compete with more expensive devices. Xiaomi positions itself in this segment with its Redmi Note series, and the manufacturer has now expanded it with four new models. atechbook compared them and reveals for whom which smartphone is worthwhile.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro and Pro 5G: The top models in the series.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro uses the Mediatek Helio G96, which offers some advantages for gamers. These include the low latency between GPU and screen as well as intelligent resource management. The octa-core chip is composed of two powerful Cortex-A76 cores with up to 2.05 GHz and six energy-saving Cortex-A55 cores with up to 2 GHz. The performance is thus in the upper midfield. However, the chip only has a 4G modem and is thus not suitable for use in 5G networks.

The Snapdragon 695 in the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, which has only been on the market since October 2021 and brings a 5G modem, is different. The setup with two Cortex-A78 cores with up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores with up to 1.7 GHz is very similar to that of the Mediatek chip. However, the performance should be slightly better in peak due to the slightly higher clock.

5G smartphone with fewer camera sensors

There are not only differences in the processor, but also in the camera. Strangely, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is the only one of the four models that has a triple instead of a quad camera. Xiaomi has saved on the depth sensor. This should not be a big issue in the end, but it could be crucial for photo enthusiasts who like to work with effects like bokeh.

At least the main sensor turns out to be generous. The sensor takes photos with 108 megapixels, but downscales them to 12 MP via 9-in-1 pixel binning. This improves the dynamic range and photo quality in difficult lighting conditions.

The other points such as storage equipment, ports and the capacity of the battery are otherwise the same for both smartphones. The 5000 mAh battery can be charged very quickly in each case thanks to 67-watt charging technology. It is also nice that Xiaomi includes a matching 67-watt power adapter.

The Redmi Note 11 and Note 11S

Instead of 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, there is only 4 GB to 6 GB here. The processor is the Snapdragon 680, which falls short of the performance of the other two chips. The Redmi Note 11 also does without the 108-megapixel camera. Instead, the manufacturer relies on a 50-megapixel model. The front camera only offers 13 instead of the otherwise 16 megapixels.

Unlike the two Pro models, the Redmi Note 11 and 11S only have 90 Hz displays. This difference should be relevant for gamers in particular.

MIUI 13 with new features

However, Xiaomi has not only unveiled new smartphones, but also introduces a new interface to match. MIUI version 13 is based on Android 11 and brings some new features.

Thanks to Liquid Storage, users should get a better overview of stored data and also manage it more easily. According to Xiaomi, Liquid Storage reduces fragmentation and actively manages stored data. This is supposed to ensure an optimized read and write speed by up to 60 percent. The manufacturer also boosts the efficiency of working memory (RAM) with Atomized Memory. The function analyzes how apps use the memory and divides the RAM-
Usage processes of a single app into important and unimportant tasks.

Besides these background adjustments, there are also visible new features in MIUI 13. These include the newly introduced Sidebar, which provides quick access to frequently used apps in movable windows. MIUI 13 is already available on the current Redmi Note 11 lineup and will gradually be rolled out to other Xiaomi smartphones as well as the Pad 5.
