Silent smartphone quite easy to find again

If you have lost your cell phone, you can simply call yourself to find it. But what to do if the device is muted? atechbook shows how you can find it again anyway!

Who doesn’t know this: annoyed searching in the trouser pocket and in the usual places is fruitless – the cell phone is gone. Although we rarely do not have our cell phone in sight, we misplace it regularly. In such cases, many people simply call themselves to find their phone again by ringing it. However, the smartphone is often set to silent or on vibrate, so when a call comes in, the phone does not ring. How to find your Android smartphone or iPhone anyway, reveals atechbook.

Here’s how to find your iPhone again

On your PC or Mac, go to the icloud.com site and log in with your Apple ID details. Alternatively, you can open the Find My iPhone app on another iPhone, iPad or Mac. To find out where your phone is, then select “iPhone Search”. After that, your smartphone will be located and you can see where your phone is on a map. If it’s not precise enough because your phone is hiding in a sofa seat, you can also activate the ringing manually from the outside. In fact, to make an iPhone set to silent or vibrate ring, you can simply use the “Play sound” option in the app. If the iPhone still has battery and is connected to the Internet, you can now hear it.

If the iPhone is no longer connected to the Internet, you can at least activate the “Lost” mode. This allows you to lock the device with a passcode and write a lost message with your phone number and contact details. You can also use it to remove the payment data for Apple Pay. Therefore, if the iPhone is turned back on by a finder, it will not be usable without your code. Newer iPhones usually only work with code, Face ID or fingerprint sensor anyway. In addition, the tracking is then automatically activated in the “Lost” mode. In the worst case, you can also remove all personal data on the device via Delete iPhone.

With the Apple Watch or Siri

If you have an Apple Watch, it can also help you locate your iPhone. To do this, go to the Control Center and select the blue icon to start ringing on the phone. In addition, you can also use the Apple Watch to light up your phone – of course, this only works if your iPhone is nearby. If you have activated the voice assistant Siri on the iPhone, you can start it by saying “Hey Siri”. Then use the timer function. If your phone is nearby, you can now hear it.

How to find your Android smartphone again

For Android devices, the location function works similarly to the iPhone. To do this, simply go to the Android.com/find page and log in with your Google account that you also use for your smartphone. On the website, you can now select the device you are looking for, whether it is a smartphone, tablet or smartwatch, from the gallery. The device is then located and the last location is displayed on a map. The website now offers three options: Under Let ring, you can let your smartphone make noise for five minutes – even if it is set to silent. However, this only works under one condition: The phone must be switched on and connected to the Internet.

However, the website has two more advantages. If you still can’t find your smartphone and fear that you may have lost it, you can lock it with your password or PIN via “Lock” and display a lost message or a phone number, just like on the iPhone. If necessary, you can also remove content from the device via “Delete”. But beware: if you choose this step, you will no longer be able to locate it with the aforementioned services.

What to do if the phone was stolen?

All the search functions to find a lost smartphone are of course of limited use if it has been stolen. As explained above, there are ways to lock the phone remotely. Do this as soon as possible!

It is also important to report the theft. In case of doubt, you should have the IMEI number of your device at hand. You can easily find it out by simply typing *#06# into the call app. Alternatively, you can also find the number in your settings under “Device information” (Android) or under “General” and “Info” (iOS).
