The 8 best smartphones under 200 euros

The days when budget smartphones were hardly any good are over: atechbook reveals what devices under 200 Euros are capable of today and what options the market of inexpensive entry-level smartphones offers.

If you don’t want to spend hundreds of Euros on a smartphone, you had to settle for lame plastic slingshots with tiny displays just a few years ago. Nowadays, however, there are also really good devices under 200 Euros that are only inferior to the high-end flagships in a few points. atechbook has looked around on the market and presents recommendable models.

The mentioned order does not correspond to any rating order.

What do smartphones under 200 Euros have to be able to do?

When we talk about smartphones up to 200 Euros, we are mostly talking about devices from the entry-level or lower mid-range. They are often equipped with features like a Full HD display, 4 to 6 GB of RAM, on average 64 or even 128 GB of storage, and batteries that offer 4000 to 5000 mAh. It is also not uncommon to find modern Fullview displays, fingerprint sensors as well as triple and quad cameras.

To narrow down our selection a bit, we only mention models that run at least Android 11 in the list of smartphones up to 200 Euros. However, some of the inexpensive smartphones are also part of Google’s Android One program, which was launched to standardize the operating system. Participating devices come with pure Android without unnecessary preinstalled apps (bloatware) and without the manufacturer’s own interface. Thus, they get updates and security patches much faster than other smartphones. Another advantage of Android One: There is an update guarantee of two years.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11

Xiaomi offers smartphones with a good price-performance ratio in this country. Buyers get a lot of features for comparatively little money. For example, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, which has been available in Germany since early 2022. The smartphone with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage is currently available for less than 200 Euros. There are also versions with 128 GB of storage and up to 6 GB of RAM to choose from. However, these are a few Euros more expensive.

With a display diagonal of 6.43 inches, the Redmi Note 11 is quite a large phone, but it comes along comparatively compact thanks to narrow display edges. The screen has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. Three things make the Xiaomi Redmi 10 special: the large 5000 mAh battery with 33 watts, Android 11 and the quad camera. It is composed of a 50-megapixel wide-angle, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, a 2-megapixel macro lens and a depth sensor with 2 megapixels as well. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 680, an eight-core chip with up to 2.4 GHz. Users of the smartphone only have to do without 5G and Wifi 6.

Nokia G21

The Nokia smartphones come with a very clean system that guarantees fast updates. Another advantage is the update guarantee of two years as well as security updates for three years. Nokia’s G21 runs Android 11 ex-factory and thus ranks well in the list of smartphones under 200 Euros with its price.

However, the Nokia G21 from the manufacturer HMD Global does not have to hide in other respects either with its 6.5-inch Fullview display and the quad camera with a 50-megapixel main sensor on the back. The drop-shaped notch at the upper edge of the display accommodates the 8-megapixel front-facing camera, among other things. However, the HD resolution might not quite fit such a large smartphone.

The Nokia G21 is a smartphone with a Unisoc processor. This is not quite as well-known in this country, but it has already established itself in Asia. To be more precise, the Unisoc T606 is at work in the device. In addition, there is 4 GB of working memory and even 128 GB of internal storage that can be expanded via micro-SD card. The battery’s capacity of 5050 mAh is generous.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S

The manufacturer Xiaomi places the Redmi Note 10S, which was introduced in May 2021, in the mid-range. The smartphone is currently priced at just under 200 Euros. The devices from the Chinese manufacturer have been officially available in Germany for some time and support the frequencies that are common in this country. With a display diagonal of 6.43 inches, the Redmi Note 10S is clearly above the 6-inch limit. Nevertheless, the device does not look that bulky thanks to the thin display edges. Users do not have to do without the Full HD resolution and an AMOLED screen, either.

The rest of the Xiaomi Redmi 10S’s equipment is also convincing. Among other things, it consists of a Mediatek Helio G90 and 6 GB of RAM. Thus, the Redmi Note 10S is equipped with a typical mid-range chip. The storage capacity can be either 64 GB or 128 GB. However, buyers will have to pay a few Euros more for the latter.

The camera equipment is impressive: Besides a 64-megapixel camera on the back, there is an ultra-wide-angle lens with 8 megapixels, a macro sensor with 2 megapixels, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Thus, the Redmi Note 10S brings along a quad camera. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, can take pictures with up to 13 megapixels. The battery is also worth mentioning because it is generous with 5000 mAh. The smartphone is shipped with Android version 11. As always, Xiaomi has put its MIUI interface on top, which takes some getting used to.

Besides the 64-megapixel main sensor, there is also an ultra-wide-angle with 8 megapixels as well as a macro lens with 5 megapixels and a depth sensor with 2 megapixels.
