At the MWC in Barcelona, several smartphone manufacturers once again presented their latest devices. atechbook summarizes which smartphone novelties we can look forward to in the coming weeks.
While Samsung and Huawei will mainly focus on new laptops at MWC 2022, Honor, Motorola and Poco will show their latest smartphones. And some of them offer decent performance.
Motorola Edge 30 Pro for the upper class
Motorola is primarily known for its inexpensive mid-range smartphones. However, the company presented a new top smartphone with the Motorola Edge 30 Pro at MWC 2022. Particularly noteworthy here are the support for 5G and Wifi 6E, the 144 Hz OLED display, and the cameras in addition to the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The screen of Motorola’s Edge 30 Pro measures 6.7 inches diagonally. Thanks to its refresh rate of 144 Hz, it displays movements and images particularly smoothly. Gamers in particular should benefit from this. However, the display can also be operated with the stylus. Motorola has introduced the Smart Stylus especially for this purpose, as well as a matching folio cover that can store the stylus. Both are optionally available. The smartphone also has two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. The battery capacity of 4800 mAh is decent for such a large device. The battery can be charged very quickly with 68 watts (power supply included). According to Motorola, 15 minutes are enough for half a charge.
The camera system has also been upgraded – both at the front and the back. The front camera offers a high resolution of 60 megapixels, and there are two 50-megapixel sensors (wide-angle + ultra-wide-angle) as well as a depth sensor with 2 megapixels on the back. The manufacturer promises high detail accuracy and performance in low-light conditions here.
The Motorola Edge 30 Pro supports the “Ready For” function and can thus mirror content on PCs with Windows 10 or 11. Equipped with the latest Android 12, 256 GB of storage and a whopping 12 GB of RAM, it will be available for 799.99 Euros from the beginning of March. The colors Cosmos Blue and Stardust White are available.
Magic 4 Pro from Honor
Honor’s Magic 4 Pro, which is protected against dust and water according to IP68, is also on the premium level. The huge 6.81-inch quad-curved display with LTPO technology comes with a refresh rate of 1 Hz to 120 Hz and very thin edges. Like the Motorola smartphone, it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. However, Honor has “only” installed 8 GB instead of 12 GB of RAM, but also relies on 256 GB of storage.
Similar to Motorola’s Edge 30 Pro, the Magic 4 also has a triple camera with two 50-megapixel sensors on the back. However, the third camera is a periscope telephoto camera with 64 megapixels, 3.5x optical zoom and a 100x digital zoom.
The Honor Magic 4 Pro soll im Sommer in den Farben Cyan und Schwarz nach Deutschland kommen. Einen Preis für das Smartphone nannte Honor auf dem MWC 2022 noch nicht.
Poco comes with two smartphones to the MWC 2022
The Poco brand, which belongs to Xiaomi, has presented two smartphones at MWC 2022. Both belong to the (upper) mid-range.
The Poco X4 Pro 5G is very well equipped. It has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ and up to 120 Hz, supports 5G, and allows users to charge the 5000 mAh battery particularly quickly with up to 67 watts. The Snapdragon 695 together with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage provide the performance here. The Poco X4 Pro 5G comes with a total of three cameras, first and foremost the 108-megapixel wide-angle. In addition, there is an ultra-wide-angle with 8 megapixels and a macro lens with 2 megapixels. The front camera takes pictures with 16 megapixels.
A bit weaker equipped, but still very solid, shows the Poco M4 Pro. It is not only a bit smaller with 6.43 inches, it also “only” offers 90 Hz and comes without 5G support. The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and supports fast charging with up to 33 watts. The smartphone is powered by the Mediatek Helio G96, which has the same storage configuration as the Poco X4 Pro 5G with 6/8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of storage. Users who need more storage can upgrade via microSD card. The Poco M4 Pro also has a triple camera. However, the manufacturer uses a 64-megapixel wide-angle in addition to the 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and the macro camera with 2 megapixels.
Both smartphones unveiled at MWC 2022 will be launched on March 2. The Poco X4 Pro 5G with 6 GB and 128 GB costs 299.90 euros, while the version with 8 GB and 256 GB is available for 349.90 euros. The Poco M4 Pro costs 229.90 euros with 128 GB and 279.90 euros with 256 GB. Poco plans to reduce prices by up to 30 Euros for early buyers.
