WhatsApp bug logs users out of their account

Some WhatsApp users are currently receiving a notification on their smartphone that they have been logged out of their account. What would normally be a cause for concern, however, turns out to be simply a bug.

Again and again, we hear of cases where scammers are targeting users’ WhatsApp accounts. Even atechbook has already warned of the dangerous scams. It makes you all the more alert when you receive a message directly from WhatsApp saying that you have been logged out of your account.

Logged out of WhatsApp account? Don’t panic!

The blog WABetaInfo, which specializes in the messenger, currently informs us that WhatsApp for Android is experiencing an error. This apparently leads to users being logged out of their account. Those affected will learn about this via a message from Messenger itself. “Your phone number is no longer associated with WhatsApp on this phone. It may have been registered on another phone. If you haven’t, confirm your phone number to log back into your account,” it says.

However, there are no hackers behind what happened. According to WABetaInfo, it is a bug that causes users to lose the connection to their WhatsApp account and get logged out. Those affected should therefore not be alarmed, because the bug can be fixed quite easily. All they have to do is log in to WhatsApp again and register their phone number. The account with all chats is then restored and the messenger can be used as usual.

Secure WhatsApp account with 2FA

Although in this case no fraudsters have taken over the WhatsApp account, it is still advisable to secure your account from this danger. The best way to do this is with two-factor authentication (2FA), which can be set up in the settings in just a few clicks.

To do this, go to the “Account” item in the WhatsApp settings and then to “Verification in two steps”. Here you can now set a six-digit PIN, which the messenger will request at regular intervals when you start the app and when you re-register your phone number with WhatsApp.
