WhatsApp could finally bring feature we’ve been waiting for 5 years

WhatsApp always brings smaller and larger updates with new features. Now the messenger is working in the background on a function that has been available on other services for a long time and that users have wanted for many years: Edit WhatsApp messages after they have already been sent.

The messenger service WhatsApp is the most used of all – both in Germany and worldwide. The app has been enthroned at the top of messengers since 2014. Facebook Messenger, Telegram and the like are comparatively far behind. Compared to some of its competitors, however, it has not been possible to use a practical function so far, namely editing WhatsApp messages after they have already been sent.

WhatsApp is working on a function for editing messages

Many people who use an instant messenger would certainly have liked to edit a message that has already been sent. There can be many reasons for this: One has seen a spelling mistake or pressed send too early or by mistake. Five years ago, WhatsApp was already working on a corresponding function to be able to correct possible errors afterwards. However, it was never rolled out. Until now, messages had to be completely deleted and rewritten if they wanted to be changed.

Now, WABetaInfo has found hints that the messenger service belonging to Meta is once again working on a corresponding function.

What exactly does the feature entail?

The site, which is known for reliable information about WhatsApp, points to corresponding hints in a current Android test version.

In addition to the already familiar “Info” and “Copy” functions, the screenshot also shows an “Edit” option. For this, users only have to select the corresponding message, then the menu appears. However, it is not clear from the information whether the original message is then visible in the log and whether the content is marked accordingly to avoid confusion.

It is not yet clear when we can expect a function for editing WhatsApp messages. However, if you want to take a look at the planned feature already, you can sign up as a WhatsApp beta tester .
