Which iPhones should no longer get iOS 16

Apple’s next major update for its mobile operating system iOS will not come until the fall of 2022, but owners of the following iPhone models should already prepare to go empty-handed.

iPhones will probably fly out again with iOS 16.

It is already considered pretty certain that not all iPhones that got iOS 15 will also be iOS 16 capable. This is mainly because iOS 15 was available for all devices that also supported iOS 14. Or simply put, no iPhones flew out of the list of supported devices under iOS 15. When this happened in the past, often two iPhone generations had to say goodbye the following year. However, this is exactly not supposed to be the case with iOS 16, as the French website iPhoneSoft now reports.

Only one generation not supported

According to the report on the site, which was often right in the past when it came to iOS rumors, fewer iPhones than suspected are to fly out. Accordingly, the French do not expect Apple to eliminate two generations at once. In this case, that would be the 6 and 7 series. Rather, the site assumes that iOS 16 will not be available on the following iPhones:

  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (2016)

Similarly, iPadOS 16 should no longer appear on these iPads:

  • iPad Mini 4
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad 5
  • iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9 inches (2015).

And of course on all older iPads, which are currently no longer supported.

The new iPhone 14 will probably be released in the fall of 2022. Are you planning to buy one?
